They provide information on the properties of ice and its concentration. While optical cameras require sunlight, <strong>SAR sensors generate their own signals<\/strong> in frequency bands capable of penetrating clouds and other adverse weather conditions, common in polar areas of interest.<\/p><p id=\"bkmrk-particularmente-para\">Particularly for ice analysis, EW mode SAR images present HH and HV polarization pairs that are especially reflective on the ice surface, making them the most suitable for this type of studies. For their implementation in SEDA, SAR images are processed following a state-of-the-art procedure for the <strong>noise removal and artifact correction<\/strong> that may distort the quality of the data, ensuring that the information used by the model is accurate and reliable.<\/p><p>However, in the specific case of ice segmentation, some limitations arise due to the influence of environmental factors such as wind or ice melting, which causes the reflected energy to be partially dissipated and the information detected back on the radar to be reduced.<\/p><div id=\"pointer\" class=\"pointer-container\"><div class=\"pointer anim is-page-editable\">\u00a0<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-8b2f506 elementor-section-stretched elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"8b2f506\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-settings=\"{&quot;stretch_section&quot;:&quot;section-stretched&quot;}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-3a1dbea\" data-id=\"3a1dbea\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9d71ea9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9d71ea9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Output of the Artificial Intelligence model<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d6ab096 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d6ab096\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>SEDA includes a solution based on <strong>Convolutional Neural Networks<\/strong> (CNN) to analyze SAR images, producing an output <strong>detailed map of sea ice concentration at each pixel<\/strong>, using a scale of 0\/10 to 10\/10 just like in the ice charts. The generated map provides a <strong>clear and immediate view of the ice situation<\/strong> in large areas. This not only protects vessels and their crew, but also allows for a <strong>considerable savings in time and resources<\/strong>, improving operational efficiency. Other practical applications include climatic studies on the evolution of the state of ice in an area of \u200b\u200binterest, being another of the main fields of interest in ice analysis.<\/p><p>This approach not only improves safety in the Arctic and other polar regions, but also marks a significant milestone in using artificial intelligence and satellite data to solve real-world problems.
