Traditionally, optical and radar imaging have been used to locate ships, but these methods encounter difficulties when dealing with <strong>small ships or structures that can be confused<\/strong> with natural objects such as icebergs.<\/p><p id=\"bkmrk-los-principales-desa\">The main challenges in ship wake detection center on confusion with other linear structures in the marine environment and <strong>the lack of quality data<\/strong>The scarcity of labeled datasets limits the training of advanced deep learning models, reducing the accuracy and robustness of detections. In addition, in radar (SAR) and optical imagery, wake features can easily be confused with other natural formations, such as ocean waves, spills or floating debris, complicating accurate identification.<\/p><p>Deep learning-based algorithms have been developed that use \u201ctwo-step\u201d detection approaches, which first identify possible wake regions and then refine them, and \u201cone-step\u201d approaches, which are faster and more efficient by detecting and classifying wakes directly. These detections can be especially useful for <strong>maritime traffic control and homeland defense<\/strong>operations; wakes, which can extend several kilometers, provide a detectable trail despite the lack of direct ship signals.<\/p><div id=\"pointer\" class=\"pointer-container\"><div class=\"pointer anim is-page-editable\">\u00a0<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-b80fc13 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"b80fc13\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-e66d8e7\" data-id=\"e66d8e7\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0a2a244 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"0a2a244\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Model input and output <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ebabdd8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ebabdd8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p id=\"bkmrk-el-modelo-para-la-se\">The model for input detection uses VHR (Very High Resolution) and HR optical imaging to detect the <strong>Kelvin wake<\/strong>the main component of the wakes and corresponding to the characteristic \u201cV\u201d shape, together with the <strong>turbulent wake<\/strong>which forms the line generated by ship propellers. Figure 2 shows in more detail some of these detections, where the model is able to identify the Kelvin wake and turbulent wake traces even when they overlap as they come from nearby ships.<\/p><p>As a result, SEDA offers the possibility to download reports in customized formats such as\u00a0<strong>PowerPoint<\/strong>or reports in standardized formats such as\u00a0<strong>KML, NVG o Shapefile<\/strong>In addition, reports in NATO formats such as\u00a0<strong>ISRSREP y RECCEXREP<\/strong>\u00a0format are also available\u00a0<strong>NSIF<\/strong>.<\/p><div id=\"pointer\" class=\"pointer-container\"><div class=\"pointer anim is-page-editable\">\u00a0<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-18cc5b4 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"18cc5b4\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-4af0881\" data-id=\"4af0881\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5b75391 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"5b75391\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Applications<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a1d6160 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a1d6160\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The detection of both vessels and their wake provided by SEDA are particularly useful in maritime security and surveillance contexts, where a higher level of control over vessels seeking to remain hidden is allowed.
